Doug Hull

Advisory Director

Doug joined Finance Earth in January 2022 and leads advisory work across a range of natural capital investment projects in the UK and internationally.

Doug leads the day-to-day management of Finance Earth’s Fisheries Improvement Fund (FIF), launched in 2023 with WWF and supported by Cargill, Skretting Nutreco, Mars, and Costco, the Walton Family Foundation, among other organisations. Building on the FIF, Doug focuses much of his work on developing cross-industry initiatives for sustainable supply chains. Doug has worked on projects related to soy production and land recovery in Brazil with WWF; coffee production and Forest Landscape Restoration in Indonesia with the Wildlife Conservation Society and Trillion Trees; arable farming in the UK with Soil Association Exchange and Lloyds Banking Group; and Next Gen textile production with Canopy and Fashion For Good.

Doug also has expertise in voluntary carbon markets, having worked on projects for corporates, project developers, and development banks. He led Finance Earth’s work with UBS Optimus Foundation to design an impact-linked loan structure to increase community value retention in carbon credit projects, as well as an outcomes-based financing mechanism for biodiversity and social outcomes. Doug has specialised experience in UK paludiculture, and has worked with leading innovators, Ponda and Beadamoss, to develop commercial models for peatland restoration.

Doug has a background in the UK social impact investing sector, having spent over three years at Social Finance, where he supported the design, launch, and performance management of some of the world’s first Social Impact Bonds in the UK and overseas.

Doug holds a BA in Geography from Cambridge University.
